Strategy

At First B2B, I worked closely with leadership to build a technology strategy that actually made sense for our business. By aligning our tech decisions with real business needs, we managed to cut infrastructure costs by 40% while improving performance.

Team Leadership

I had the opportunity to grow our engineering team from 3 to 7 people at First B2B. Beyond just hiring, I focused on mentoring developers and creating an environment where people could learn, experiment, and do their best work.

Information Security

I led our ISO27001:2022 compliance initiative, which meant diving deep into risk assessments, crafting security policies that people could actually follow, and running training sessions to get everyone on board with better security practices.

CI/CD

I built out our CI/CD pipeline from scratch using GitHub Actions, Docker, and AWS ECS. The result? We went from constantly worrying about broken deployments to reducing them by 90%, with automated testing catching issues before they hit production.

DevOps

I introduced infrastructure as code using Terraform, which finally gave us consistent deployments across all our environments. The biggest challenge was modernizing a 23-year-old Perl processing system - I managed to containerize it and get it auto-scaling on AWS ECS.

Software Engineering

I love building software that's both scalable and maintainable. I've worked across many different languages and frameworks over the years, which helps me pick the right tool for each project. These days, I'm most comfortable with Ruby, JavaScript, Perl, and Go.
